The Feast of the Holy Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior in Gapyeong

The Feast of the Transfiguration of the Savior was celebrated with spiritual joy and gladness at the celebrating women’s monastery in Gapyeong over the two days of August 5 and 6, 2026.

On the eve of the feast, the monastery’s serving priest, Fr. Antonios Woo, celebrated Great Vespers with the Blessing of Bread (Artoklasia). The following day, at the Orthros of the feast and the Divine Liturgy, His Eminence Ambrose, Metropolitan of Korea and Exarch of Japan, presided, concelebrated by the priests: Protopresbyter Fr. Antonios Woo, Protopresbyter Fr. Roman Kavchak, Fr. Jeremiah Cho, Fr. Hilarion Jeong, Fr. Antonios Lim, and Fr. Johan Park.

In his homily, the Metropolitan addressed the question, “Why was Christ transfigured before His disciples on a high mountain?” and concluded with the exhortation to seek “the things above, not the things on earth.”

At the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Blessing of the Grapes took place, and after the distribution of the Antidoron and the reading of the Prayer of Thanksgiving, all proceeded to the grave of the ever-memorable Metropolitan Soterios, where a memorial service was chanted.

Among the pilgrims, the presence of the campers and staff of the high school session was especially notable; during the common Agape meal, they presented a special program of songs and hymns before everyone, and in this way, with God’s help, the third camping session of the summer of 2026 came to a close.
