Symposium: “AI from a Christian Point of View: Servant or Overlord?” Press Release

The Orthodox Metropolis of Korea (H.E. Metropolitan Ambrosios Cho Sung-am), together with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea (CBCK, Presiding H.E. Metropolitan Matthias Rl long-hoon) and the National Council of Churches in Korea (NCCK, President Rev. Pastor Yoon Chang-seop, General Secretary Rev. Pastor Kim Jong Seng), will hold a symposium ON THE THEME: “AI from a Christian Point of View: Servant or Overlord?” on 27 September in Seoul.

We invite leading theologians to share their thoughts on the Christian perspective of Artificial Intelligence (AI), a technology that has brought many conveniences to humanity today, but also poses enormous challenges. The Symposium will explore both the positive aspects of AI and the issues it raises, and WILL provide insights into how we, as God’s creations, should live out our beliefs and understandings within a Christian spirituality.

This Symposium is a joint Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant event, especially on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Orthodox Metropolis of Korea and Exarchate of Japan. We are pleased to welcome His Eminence Metropolitan Nikolaos (Orthodox Metropolis of Mesogaia and Lavreotiki, Church of Greece), Rev. Dr. Fr. Moses Han Changhyun (Formation Director of Society of St. Paul in Korea), and Rev. Dr. Pastor Shin Ick-Sang (Member of the Theological Committee of the National Council of Churches of Korea and Professor at the Graduate School of Theology at SKHU).

His All Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew sent a Patriarchal Message which will be read at the beginning of the Symposium. Also, H.E. Metropolitan Matthias Rl long-hoon, Chairman of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea, Rev. Jong Seng Kim, General Secretary of NCCK, and H.E. Metropolitan of Korea and Exarch of Japan Ambrosios Cho Sung-Am will address the Symposium. We are all looking forward to your attendance and participation.
