The news of the repose of the much-revered Fr. Eleftherios Chavatzas has reached even distant Korea and has deeply saddened us, in a human way.
We held a memorial prayer service at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Seoul, where he had served, and we will continue to pray daily for the repose of his blessed soul in the Kingdom of God, of which he was a lifelong ardent seeker.
The ever-memorable Fr. Eleftherios was a precious co-laborer of our Church in Korea. Together with his blessed Presvytera Alexandra, they visited Korea twice and served voluntarily for a significant period in the Metropolis of Korea. They were greatly loved by the Korean clergy and laity, and they never ceased to support, both morally and financially, the work of spreading the Orthodox witness in the Land of Morning Calm.
With the certainty that he will continue, through his intercessions, to support the work of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in the Far East, together with the clergy and the people of the Church sojourning in Korea, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his esteemed presvytera and his large priestly family. May we all have his holy prayers, and may his memory be eternal!
