On Friday, September 26, and Saturday, September 27, the National Intangible Heritage Center in Jeonju organized a musical event highlighting the historical continuity of Greek music. The roots of Greek music are closely tied to the ecclesiastical music of the Orthodox Church.
For this reason, Greek artists from the rebetiko music tradition were invited from Greece, alongside the choir of our Saint Nicholas Cathedral, to perform hymns of our ecclesiastical music in the Korean language.
The choir performed with remarkable and synchronized rhythm the hymn “Holy God…” from the Divine Liturgy and the Resurrection hymn “Christ is Risen…”. At the conclusion of the event, accompanied by Greek instruments, our choir performed the traditional Korean song Arirang (아리랑) to demonstrate the love and connection between the two countries. In all three performances, the venue was filled with enthusiastic audiences.
