CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS IN KOREA

With the grace and blessing of God, we celebrated this year again the birth in the flesh of the Word of God and our Savior Jesus Christ.

Following the Typikon of our Church, on the morning of Friday, December 22, the Great Hours of Christmas Service was celebrated in the chapel of St. Maximus the Greek. This was followed by the Holy Sacrament of Confession, as in the next two days.

On Sunday morning 12/24, after the service, Orthros of the Sunday before Christmas, the celebration of the Divine Liturgy of St. Chrysostom followed at the Cathedral of St. Nicholas Seoul, with the participation of not only a large number of faithful, but also the falling of abundant snow!

After the Agape Meal, the Great Christmas Vespers was celebrated, and attended by many faithful and catechumens.

On the following day, Monday, December 25, the Metropolitan of Korea presided over the Orthros of the Great Feast of Christmas and the Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great, assisted by Rev. Fr. Roman Kavchak and Rev. Fr. Anthony Lim.

After the Divine Liturgy, all the faithful participated in the festive Agape Meal in the church Hall, which was prepared with much care by the parish ladies. The choir of the cathedral sang Christmas songs. Also, a group of students from Greece sang traditional carols and a lady sang carols from Ukraine. The program ended with the arrival of Santa who offered gifts to the children.

Christmas was celebrated similarly in the other parishes of the Metropolis with the participation of many faithful and catechumens.

We hope that God’s coming to our land will banish our selfishness and the sadness and fear of death! And to fill our hearts with unspeakable joy, hope, and optimism.
